Horry County First Steps Receives $8,000 Grant from Palmetto Goodwill
Horry County First Steps has been awarded a $8,000 grant from the Palmetto Goodwill Community Investment Fund to help keep local families and their youngest children safe.
The funding will provide car seats, cribettes, and other essential family support materials for families with children aged zero to five across Horry County. As part of the Early Identification & Referral program, families complete a developmental screening and receive hands-on education from certified staff on safe sleep practices and proper car seat installation — along with connections to additional community resources, such as BabyNet and Child Find, when needs are identified.
The investment addresses a critical local need: motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of injury-related death for children ages 0–9 in Horry County, and unsafe sleep conditions remain the leading cause of accidental infant death statewide. Over the coming year, the program is expected to serve 40 to 50 Horry County families, with a goal of connecting 80% of them to additional resources beyond the direct distribution of materials.
“We are so grateful to Palmetto Goodwill for their generous support and for this new partnership with Horry County First Steps. This grant allows us to put life-saving safety materials directly into the hands of the families who need them most, and we're thankful to have a partner as committed to our community's children as Palmetto Goodwill,” said Amy Breault, Executive Director of Horry County First Steps.
Horry County First Steps is grateful to Palmetto Goodwill for this investment in the safety and well-being of our community's youngest residents.
